If Shakespeare was alive today he might say "To trade or not to trade, that is the question"? However,, is that really the only question about the Angels future?
Although the Angels will face some tough decisions about trading Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani. Yes, they can get a lot of talented players in a package for these outstanding talents. However, Has anyone given any thought to the fact that Joe Maddon (who by the way is the only Manager in the history of the Chicago Cubs that figured out how to win a World Series in 100+ years and is smart enough to figure out how to be the all time winningest Manager in Tampa history) has said "The Angels do not win because of the front office".
Shouldn't the decision to trade 2 of the games best hitters and one of the games best pitchers be the decision of a well recruited front office that can lead this team in the correct direction.
The distractions from the front office of this team are obvious! The Angels front office also got in the way of former Manager Mike Scioscia. In fact, the front office of the Angels has been a consistent challenge.
The Farm system is not working, the morale on the team could be much higher, and the product on the field is not winning.
Lets start with the Front Office and get that right. Then lets make some decisions about the future. However, lets not hesitate. To fire Joe Maddon when the team was only 2 games under 500 was not the right thing to do. Why not try and get him back? However, you need the right General Manager in place for him to return. Someone that Maddon respects and gets along with. Mike Scioscia was the Manager for many years when Joe Maddon was a Coach with the team. They got along fine. In fact, they won a World Series together! Why not talk to him about coming back as the G.M. and bring back Joe Maddon as the Manager?
Scioscia could build an organization, given the opportunity. He saw as a player with the Dodgers how all of this works as he came up through the system. He would clean up the scouting, farm system, and recruit the right people to get the job done.. While Maddon would now have the tools he needs to get things done in a drama free setting plus he will have a General Manager that he gets along with and respects.
What would happen if the Super Bowl Champion Rams decided to move Cooper Kup to Quarterback and moved Mathew Stafford to Linebacker? They would lose, because they would have talented guys playing the wrong position. This is why the Angels have been losing. They have guys in the Front Office that are playing the wrong position. Before they make changes on the field, they need to make changes in the front office.
Scisocia and Maddon are probably the most qualified minds to decide to trade or not to trade.
